M.E.D. LINESMAN KILLED

Contact With Live Wire

A Municipal Electricity Department linesman was killed about 8.40 am. yesterday when working on low tension lines at the corner of Woodard terrace and Stenness avenue, Somerfield. He was:

Wallace James Balloch. aged 41, a married man with one son, aged 12. of 19 Hoon Hay road.

Mr Balloch was a member of a gang attaching lines to a new power pole. He was sitting at the top of the pole making adjustments when contact was made with a live wire. He was given artificial respiration and taken to the Christchurch Public Hospital by St. John ambulance An inquest will be opened this morning before the Coroner (Mr A T. Bell) for identification.

School Archives

The Christchurch Post-primary Schools’ Council should begin to assemble archives about its constituent schools, said Mr Duncan Mackay last evening. The council had congratulated the Christchurch West High School on its centenary and on the success of the celebrations when Mr Mackay said that the council should secure a copy of the historical records and also histories of other schools.
