FORECAST TO MIDNIGHT ■ Situation: An anti-cyclone lies over eastern Australia. Pressures are low to the north of the North Island and to the south of the South Island and a cold south-westerly airstream is spreading on to New Zealand. Forecast:— , Nelson and Marlborough: West or south-west winds, freshening at times; showers this afternoon about the Kaikoura coast; elsewhere fair to fine weather, apart from wintry showers in the high country; temperatures colder. Outlook: mainly fair. West Coast: South-west winds, mainly moderate; showers this morning, but considerable fair periods later; temperatures becoming cold. Outlook: changeable. Canterbury: Moderate variable winds at first, southwesterlies freshening later; weather fair to fine at first, but cold wintry showers accompanying the south-westerlies and snow showers to low levels. Outlook: south-westerlies. CHRISTCHURCH READINGS
