School Burnt Down Near Dunedin
(New Zealand Press Association) DUNEDIN, Sept. 11. A tall brick chimney against a heap of rubble is all that remains of the Berwick School, 23 miles south-west of Dunedin, after a sudden fire raced through the building about 3 a.m. today.
The one-roomed wooden school, about 40 years old. contained a piano, radio and film projector, besides books and furniture. Mr R. F. Phillipps, secretary-manager of the Otago Education Board, inspected the scene this morning and described it as "a complete write-off” The cause of the fire is not known.
