T.E.A.L. PLANE FAULTS

Cylinder And Carburettor (New Zealand. Press Association) AUCKLAND, September 7. The four-engined Tasman Empire Airways DC6 airliner which developed engine trouble after passing the point of no return on its way to Sydney from Christchurch on Friday night, returned to Auckland last night. The aircraft landed in Sydney on Friday night, with one feathered engine and one running below standard. A check showed the trouble to be a defective cylinder in the feathered motor and a faulty carburettor in the engine giving trouble. A cylinder and carburettor change was made and the engines completely reserviced. The plane made the return crossing at a normal cruising speed of 270 miles an hour carrying 58 passengers and 15001 b of luggage. Cylinder and carburettor faults were not unusual, said a spokesman for T.E.A.L. this evening. The odd factor was that' two such faults developed at the same time.
