Endeavour Sails For Islands
(New Zealand Press Association) AUCKLAND, Sept. 7.
H.M.N.Z.S. Endeavour sailed from Devonport naval base on Friday a six-weeks’ cruise of the Pacific Islands.
• This is the Endeavour’s first cruise away from New Zealand waters since she returned from the Antarctic last March. In the meantime, she has had an exten-. sive refit.
In command is Commander J. E. Washbourn, who has replaced Captain H. Kirkwood, captain on the last voyage to the Antarctic.
Escaper Gaoled.—John Repia, aged 23, was gaoled for years and a half by Mr M. C. Astley, S.M., in the Magistrate’s Court at Auckland for his escape from the Kaikohe Police Gaol and 16 other charges, including car conversion and breaking and entering, committed both before and after hi* Meapt'—CFAJ ’
