Rowing CANTERBURY CLUB

New Boathouse Plans Approved Authority to proceed with the design of the new boathouse, and to call for tenders for the erection was given the Canterbury Rowing Club’s building committee at the club’s annual meeting recently. The building Svill be completed by the members. It is expected that the completed building will cost approximately £BOOO and it is hoped to begin building before the end of the year. Messrs S. W. Cox and H. S. Hobbs were elected life members. Mr Cox is president of the club and represented New Zealand at the Olympic Games at Los Angeles in 1932. Mr Hobbs joined the club in 1899 and held office for many years. The following officers were elected:— , President, Mr S. W. Cox; vicepresidents, Messrs J. B. Taylor, S. P. Godfrey, A. C. O. Allen, and C. S. Morris; captain, Mr E. R. McCalman; deputy captain. Mr E. J. Martin; honorary secretary, Mr C. J. O’H. Tobin; honorary treasurer, Mr J. D. Ward; management committee. Messrs R. D. Beckwith, C. L. Bell, M. A. Brawn, B. Cadogan, B. F. Carter, M. C. Corsbie, C. J. Sewell; racing committee, Messrs E. R. McCalman, B. F. Carter, P. J. R. Spooner; delegates to the Canterbury Rowing Association, Messrs R. D. Beckwith, B. F. Carter. E. R. McCalman. The Qlub’a opening day will be held oa October 18.
