Golf TOURNAMENT AT AMBERLEY
R. E. Clements Wins Again R. E. Clements yesterday added the Amberley Golf Club’s open tournament to his earlier wins at Tai Tapu and Rangiora with a 74, 76—150, five strokes better than the runner-up, R. Ramsay, who had rounds of 76 and 79. In the morning. Clements had a birdie 4 on the 440-yard second hole, after dropping one stroke on the, first and then further singles on the third and fifth, giving him a 37—two over par—going out. He dropped another stroke on the eleventh, but had a birdie 4 on the 440-yard fifteenth to come home in a par 37. During the afternoon he went out again in 37, havirfg dropped a shot on each of the third, fifth, and ninth holes, but gaining a birdie 3 on the 400-yard second. On the way in he lost another two strokes, dropping one at the 550-yard tenth, where he pushed his tee shot into the penalty area, and he lost another one on the 350yard twelfth for a 39 second half. After a promising 76 in the morning, R. Ramsay started the afternoon round soundly, going out in 36, only one over par, but he had a bad putting lapse, losing a stroke on each of the tenth, eleventh, twelfth, and fourteenth holes by taking three putts. On the fifteenth and seventeeenth holes he went into the penalty areas, and while he recovered to get out in bogey 5 on the 440-yard fifteenth, he took six for the bogey 5 485-yard seventeenth, and dropped another on the bogey 4 400-yard eighteenth. After a bad morning round of 81, C. H. Johnson improved to a 77 in the afternoon to gain third place. It .was not a good day for K. D. Foxton, who had two rounds of 80.
