Inquiries At Avondale
(New Zealand Press Association) AUCKLAND, Sept. 7. Sir Valley (J. R. Gillies) bled during the Spring Handicap at Avondale yesterday, and he was pulled up at the three furlongs. He was led back to the birdcage. After the Avondale Guineas, G. F. Hughes, the rider of Up and Coming, the winner, was questioned regarding Up and Coming’s improvement in form. Hughes said that the horse had improved with his race in the Sheriff Handicap on the first day and had worked well enough during the week to have a winning chance. „ E. P. Blackburn, the rider of Sea Contour in the Kingsland Hurdles, fractured his left collarbone when his mount crashed at the last fence.
