KAIKOURA HIGH SCHOOL
Celebrations To Be
Attended By 606 Six hundred and six former pupils of the Kaikoura District High School will meet in Kaikoura next week for the first reunion of the school, and the celebrations of the eighty-fifth anniversary of the founding of the school, and the fifty-fifth anniversary of the establishment df the secondary department. The opening ceremony will be held in conjunction with the children’s sports at the Takahanga Domain on Friday afternoon, August 29. That evening 650 persons will attend the anniversary Reunion ball in the War Memorial Community Centre. On Saturday morning, August 30, visitors will be taken on a short tour of the district by bus. A reunion at the school, roll calls, decade photographs, and a display of old school photographs will occupy the afternoon. In the evening. 550 persons will attend the anniversary banquet in the memorial centre. The Canterbury Education Board will be represented by the chairman (Mr S. J. Irwin) and the secretary (Mr W. P. Spencer). The toast of the school will be proposed by the member of Parliament for the district, Mr T. P. Shand, an old boy of the school. The celebrations will conclude on the Sunday morning. August 31, with a service in the community centre.
