RECORD FRUIT EXPORTS

1,866,000 Cases Last Year (New Zealand. Press Association) AUCKLAND, August 21. Exports of New Zealand fruit reached a record 1,836,000 cases this year, said the chairman of the New Zealand Apple and Pear Marketing Board (Mr J. H. Parker) in a tape-recorded speechplayed to delegates at the New Zealand Fruitgrowers’ Federation annual conference in Auckland today. The speech was recorded in London. Mr Parker said that the United Kingdom and the Continent between them took 95 per cent, of the total exports.

‘‘We sold at profitable prices in Germany, Holland, France. Belgium, Sweden, Finland, and Norway, and a lot of other loose fruit found its way to other countries, including Austria and Switzerland.

‘‘lt was really good business not only for this season, but in building up our trade for the future,” he said.

Speaking of affairs in New Zealand, Mr Parker said the board had faced its toughest task of assembling, distributing and selling a record crop—more than 200,000 cases greater than in any previous year.
