Cricket DROPPING OF WARDLE
“ Will Be Missed” Says Hutton (N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) LONDON, August 21. “I am very sorry Johnny Wardle has been dropped from the M.C.C. side to tour Australia,” said Sir Leonard Hutton last night. ‘‘He will be missed very much indeed on this tour.” The former Yorkshire player and England captain, who was answering questions on the 8.8.C.’s television ‘‘Press Conference,” said: ‘‘l think Wardle’s type of bowling would be extremely useful in Australia.” “I was very sorry when all these things happened in the last two or three weeks that led to the ultimate decision by the M.C.C. It is most regrettable. ‘‘We in Yorkshire have lost a character—and cricket is extremely short of characters at the present time,” he said. Asked what he would have done had he been a member of the M.C.C. committee. Sir Leonard Hutton said: ‘‘l would have been inclined to take Wardle to Australia.
“I do not think he has had any trouble with the M.C.C. The trouble has all been with Yorkshire. T feel it is rather hard that he is not to be taken.”
