Fencing VICTORIA WINS OTAGO SHIELD
(From. Our Own. Reporter) WELLINGTON, August 20. The Otago shield for fencing was won this year by Victoria University with Canterbury University second and Auckland University third. None of the bouts produced great surprises, except that the Canterbury captain (M. A. Sharfe) lost four bouts, to A. A. D. Ellis (Victoria), and CM. Musgrave (Otago), in the foils, and B. L. Pomeroy and C. D. Beeby (Victoria) in the sabre. Ellis, Sharfe, Beeby, and Pomeroy were selected to fight against Wellington province last evening, and some fine, free fencing of good national standard resulted.
