N.Z. MAY ATTRACT TOP PLAYERS
(New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, August 7. There is a feeling among .leading professional golfers abroad that New Zealand . may very shortly fit into a world tournament pattern—in October of each year. This statement was made today by Mr T. Crow, overseas business manager for the British open golf champion, P. W. Thomson, (Australia). Mr Crow has arrived to arrange an exhibition by Thomson and other members of his troupe, the South Africans H. Henning and G. Player, and D. Thomas (Wales), in October. The troupe, as well as Mr Crow himself, will participate in the New Zealand open and in sponsored tournaments in Auckland and Wellington. ‘‘The successes enjoyed by Peter and his boys- in October, both in the major tournaments and in the exhibition matches I hope to arrange in Christchurch and Dunedin, may well go towards determining the attitude of other overseas professionals towards tournament golf in New Zealand in October,” said Mr Crow. “For overseas men, including Americans, October is a very suitable month,” he said. ‘‘But, of course, there will need to be more sponsors, more sponsored tournaments, more money.” “The overseas circuit is, roughly, <South Africa (January and February); the United States (February to June); Britain (July to September); New Zealand, we hope, in October, and Australia in November.” JUNIOR TOURNAMENT The following is the draw for the Canterbury junior tournament, to be held at Avondale on Wednesday, August 13:— No. 1 Tee 8.45 a.m.: Mrs M.
