Running In The Family
There are many family combinations competing in Canterbury harrier races at present, but a probable record was set on Saturday when six members of the Macdonald family ran in various grades' of the Canterbury championships.
Jitn Macdonald, who gained selection in the Canterbury team •for the New Zealand titles, was a competitor in the senior race. Three sisters, Margaret, Heather, and Janet, were competitors in the senior women’s race, and another, Rebecca, in the junior women’s section, while a younger brother, j Chris, was in the cplts (Under 16) race.
Last year’s Canterbury senior champion, John Macdonald, Jim’s twin brother, is competing in nganui. Another brother did not compete because of the age restriction preventing runners under 12 competing in inter-club events and there is a further possibility of two other younger members of the faihily participating in harriers when they become older. Douglas Dixey, who was second in the senior title -race, headed another large family group of competitors.
