N.Z. PLAYS FOR BROADCASTING
Standard Said To Be
Encouraging
“It is encouraging to have plays by New Zealand authors of this standard f6r broadcasting.” says the report of the New Zealand Broadcasting Service tabled in the House of Representatives, in reference to “two substantial plays’’—“A Masque for Old Bones ” bv John Dunmore, and “An Occasion for Fireworks.” bv S. Y. Ray, produced by the broadcasting service during the year. “Both received favourable comment,” says the report. “In addition to broadcasts of pltiys there were, including repeat, broadcasts. 795 broadcasts'of short stories produced by the service, an increase of 46 on the previous year. “Considerably more plays and short stories were submitted by authors for consideration. Of the 436 plays submitted 45 were accepted; and of the -282 short stories 31 fwere accepted. Fourteen of the short stories and one of tlie two plays by New Zealand authors mentioned above were included in the 7Q purchased.”
