Israeli Move Predicted

(N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) (Rec. 9 p.m.) NEW YORK, August 7. Western diplomats in Tel Aviv predicted that Israel would invade Jordan the day it became cleJr that King Hussein had lost control oi the country and’ the United Arab Republic was about to occupy the vacuum, a report to the New York “World Telegram and Sun” from the Jsraeli capital said today. The dispatch said the United States* special envoy in the Middle East, Mr Robert Murphy, had been given that warning-jn so many words when he conferred with the Israeli Prime Minister (Mr David Ben-Gurion) last week. This likelihood of an Israeli military move had been the major unspoken factor in American and British eagerness to settle the Middle East crisis, the report said. The urgency, it added, wSs increased by the belief of observers in the area that King Hussein’s days on the throne were numbered.
