Soviet Press Attacked
(Rec. 11.30 p.m.) BELGRADE, August 8.
“Borba,” the official Jugoslav Communist Party newspaper, today accused the press of the Soviet bloc—except Poland—of
“making big efforts to'discredit Jugoslav foreign policy.” A leading article charged that Government newspapers in the Soviet Union, China and other East European countries, but not Poland, had “hushed up” Jugoslav statements condemning British and American actions in the I 'iddle East. They had also suppressed President Tito’s recent messages to other “non-bloc”' leaders, and had published “crude fabrications with the aim of discrediting Jugoslavia in the eyes of world opinion,” “Borba’’ said.
These included allegations that Jugoslavia was siding with “imperialists,” that Jugoslavia had helped the rearmament of West Germany, and that the Jugoslav Navy was carrying on manoeuvres with Atlantic Pact navies.
