Preliminarv Survey Carried Out

(From Our Own Reporter) TIMARU. July 26. The inclusion of Benmore. which will be comparable in size with a borough, will increase the scope of the work undertaken by the Department of Health in the Timaru health district, which already extends from the Rakaia river to Shag Point, near Palm erston. The Medical Officer of Health iDr N. T. Barnett) has made a preliminary survey of the village, land his opinion is that extra medical services in the way of health supervision and attention to industrial health matters will be required. A move will soon be made to have a health nurse appointed. A cottage. with a fullyequipped surgery attached, will be provided by the Ministry of Works. Dr. Barnett said it was estimated that by the end of next month 500 persons would be living in the area. There is provision for the erection of a school and the nurse will be responsible for the supervision of school children and other routine work associated with the duties of a public health nurse. The surgery will be in the nature of a field dressing station as persons needing hospital treatment will be taken to Oamaru. In addition to the normal school work the resident nurse will attend to such matters as antipoliomyelitis injections. diphtheria immunisation and antituberculosis injections.
