Obituary MR H. D. C. ADAMS
(New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, July 4. Mr Howard Dartrey Charles Adams, C.M.G., LL.B., New Zealand’s Parliamentary law draftsman since 1938, died late last night. Mr Adams was credited with maintaining New Zealand’s widely-esteemed standard of framing legislation. In 1947, he was awarded the C.M.G. in recognition of his work. He was the architect of legislation of such major importance as the Companies Act, the Workers’ Compensation Act and the P.A.Y.E. legislation. He was born in 1897 at Napier and educated at Wellington College. and Victoria University.' He was admitted to the bar in 1918. After private practice he joined the Public Trust Office in 1929. In 1938, the year he rose to his highest post, he sat on the New Zealand Law Revision Committee. He had previously assisted with Butterworth’s reprint of statutes and with publications on company law and local government.
He is survived by his wife two sons and a daughter.
