SCHOOL DOGGED BY DOGS

Rongotai College Problem (“The Press” Special Service) WELLINGTON, July 4. Some time ago the headmaster of a Wellington boys’ school had suffered seagull trouble, said the headmaster of Rongotai College (Mr A. E. Lock) at a board meeting. That had been nothing compared with the present siege by dogs that his school was experiencing. The problem was acute, said Mr Lock. Dogs of all kinds dogged the footsteps of the pupils and staff all day and every day. “Small dogs, large dogs, dogs of low chassis, dogs of high,” interfered with the pursuit of sport on the playing field.

“I think some of them must be Soccer players,” said the headmaster, “because they worry the life out of the school Soccer coach.

“We’ve approached the City Council to get some help. They came and took one load away, and they’re coming again next week for another lot.” They had tried giving a dog away to a pupil to relieve the situation, but. as Mr Lock indicated, there was a limit to that kind of alleviation of the problem. “They are really terrific—they hunt in packs,” said Mr Lock.
