HARBOUR QUARRY AT LYTTELTON
Move To Take Land
Notice of its intention to take about eight and a half acres of land under the Harbours Act and Public Works Act has been fiven by the Lyttelton Harbour Board to the Lyttelton Borough Council. The Harbour Board recently acquired 25 acres between Sticking Point and Battery Point Xor its quarry and requires the additional land to provide rock for filling in facing on its reclamation works.
The 25 acres had been bought from the Crown and two private owners, the secretary-manager of the board (Mr A. L. Burk) said yesterday. Terms and prices were negotiated without resort to litigation. Negotiations with the Borough Council had been prolonged and inconclusive. This matter would now be referred to the Land Valuation Court.
