The English Rugby League five-eighth Harry Archer has been fined £2O by the touring manager (Mr Tom Mitchell) for failing Yo report to his Brisbane hotel on Saturday night at the instructed curfew hour Mr Mitchell said later: “As our team had to be up at 5 a.m. yesterday to fly to Rockhampton (400 miles north of Brisbane) an instruction was given to members to be back at the hotel at a certain time
“As Archer did not. 1 gave him the option of paying £2O or two weeks suspension from playing Archer paid up.” Archer did not play in the team which yesterday beat the Central Queensland side by 61 points to 19. Playing copybook football .in the warm Queensland winter sunshine. the English team outclassed Central Queensland. England led 33-4 at half-time.
From the first whistle, England dominated and in the first fifteen minutes had converted four tries for 20 points before Central Queensland scored with a penalty kick First points came from a try by E. Fraser, following up a short kick from J. Challinor. From there on it was a series of tries and conversions by Britain until their score reached 61 with twenty-five minutes’ play left. E. Ashton and A. Murphy often electrified the crowd with their fast drives with cross-passing which cut the defence to ribbons
