ARTHURS PASS EXCURSION
More than 600 persons travelled in two excursion trains to Arthur s Pass yesterday. No vandalism or misbehaviour was reported. The weather at Arthur’s Pass was fine but there was a cool wind, said the ranger (Mr R. W. Clelland). There was little snow below the 4500 foot level of Temple Basin. A few persons from the excursion went ice skating and others explored the area in the vicinity of the township. The policeman from Otira. Constable W. Armstrong, was at Arthur’s Pass during the day and in addition two constables travelled on each of the trains. They were Constables J. Howat and R. Moore on the first train, which arrived in Christchurch at 7.30 p.m., and Constables B. H. Hubbard and J. E. Brailey on the second train, which arrived back at 7.50 p.m.
