Krupp’s Interest In Queensland
(N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) MELBOURNE. June 21.
Mr Alfred Krupp, the German industrialist, is negotiating with the Commonwealth Aluminium Corporation Pty., Ltd., for a huge Central Queensland coal and bauxite undertaking based on Blair Athol and Weipa (Gulf of Carpentaria) resources, the Melbourne ‘‘Sun’’ has reported. The “Sun” said the plan would enable Mr Krupp to produce petrol (more cheaply, his advisers believe, than orthodox petrol) from coal at Blair Athol, 635 miles from Brisbane, and establish at Blair Athol a £25,000,000 power station—greater in output than all Queensland’s present powerhouses combined.
Mining and power experts have estimated the total capital investment in the Krupp-Comalco ventures at “conservatively £200.000,000,” the newspaper said. Comalco is a subsidiary of the Consolidated Zinc Company.
