ACCUSATION BY NASSER
“West Paved Way To Intervene’’ (Rec. 8 p.m.) CAIRO. June 22. President Nasser has accused the Western powers of paving the way for armed intervention in the Middle East. The assertion was made at a banquet last night given in his honour by the visiting Prime Minister of Ghana, Dr. Kwame Nkrumah. The tw’O leaders had earlier issued a statement of their belief in a policy of positive neutrality and non-alignment. Dr. Nkrumah toasted President Nasser as his “good friend and fellow comrade in arms against colonialism and imperialism.” President Nasser, in reply, spoke of accusations made against the United Arab Republic of Egypt and Syria during the last few weeks by the United States, Britain and France. “This accusation was no more than an excuse to pave the way for their intervention and their conspiracies, so that they might come back once more to dominate this area and these lands which sought independence,” he said. “These conspiracies did not succeed in dismaying us for we are strong-willed and jealous of our independence.”
