MISSILES IN EUROPE
N.A.T.O. Arsenal Encircled (N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) (Rec. 9 p.m.) BONN, June 21. A ring of 18 Nike anti-aircraft missile launching sites is defending N.A.T.O.’s biggest European arsenal near Kaiserlautern, Western Germany. Among the potential targets they protect are the biggest United States ammunition, signals and ordnance depots in Europe. Three jet airfields, an American infantry division and the headquarters of the F(yrth Tactical Air Force, which is N.A.T.O.'s biggest, comprising United States. Canadian, and French units.
A N.A.T.O. spokesman said thal the ring should be completed by the end of this year. The sites of six are still secret. The other 12 are about 25 miles from each other, and as the Nike-Ajax missile is believed to have a range of about 30 miles this makes them “complete overlapping.” according to an army spokesman.
