Treason Trial In August

(Rec. 11 p.m.) PRETORIA, June 21. Ninety-two South Africans of all races committed for trial on treason charges will appear before a special Court of three Judges in Pretoria on August 1, it was announced today. The accused’s committal for trial last January was at the end of the longest mass Court hearing in South African history.

The accused were arrested in December, 1956. The basis of the Crown’s charge was that they had been preparing to overthrow the Government by violence and to set up “a so-called people’s democracy” on the East European model.
