U.N. STATISTICAL COMMISSION
Mr G. E. Wood Elected Chairman (New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, April 28. A warm tribute to the former Government Statistician (Mr G\ E. Wood) was paid today by the' Prime Minister (Mr Nash). Mr Wood has been elected chairman of the United Nations Statistical Commission for the tenth session, which is at present sitting in New York. “I am delighted that Mr Wood’s services are now to be made use of in such an important capacity.” said Mr Nash “and I am sure that he will give just as valuable service to the world—through United Nations—as he has given New Zealand.” The Statistical Commission, operating under the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations, consists of 15 members, one-third of whom are elected each year. New Zealand is a member for the period 1956-59 and, for the present session, it is being represented by the ActingGovernment Statistician (Mr J. V. T. Baker).
