HIGH-SPEED TYPEWRITING
N.Z. Girl’s Hopes Of Championship MELBOURNE. April 10. The reason which brought Miss Nancy Burt from New Zealand to Melbourne by way of London was distinctly ‘ different—she wanted to win a speed typewriting championship, a “Melbourne Age” columnist said today. • She also hoped to find someone in Melbourne who could speak intelligibly at a rate of 230 words a minute. The columnist said: “The. twin motives which set Miss Burt travelling overseas from her home in Nelson more than two years ago and brought her here, are to become New Zealand’s champion speed typist and shorthand writer. In London, she took a Pitman s shorthand certificate for 210 words a minute. Now she wants one for 230 words a minute. “In Monaco two years ago her officially-acknowldged typing rate of 113 words a minute helped her type to third place in the world typewriting championship. “Last May she finished seventh and 17th in the two sections of the world typewriting championship at Milan and has her eye now on the championships i n Melbourne in October “After that. Miss Bur* will be off home to Nelson, for the New Zealand typewriting championship in November.”
