T.A.I. MAY USE HAREWOOD
Planes Too Big For Whenuapai (New Zealand Press Association) AUCKLAND, April 11. T.A.1., the French airline, wants to put a Douglas DC7C, banned already from Whenuapai because of its weight, on the Paris-New Zealand run next month. The airline has asked the Civil Aviation Administration if it can operate the DC7C at restricted loading into Auckland. If the administration turns this request down, T.A.I. may consider flying to Christchurch, although its officials do not want to. Mr Maurice Collet, the New Zealand representative for T.A.1., expects an early reply from the Civil Aviation Administration on this matter. He said that, like Pan American Airways, his airline was concerned about the economics of using Christchurch. He said it would also be uneconomic to fly the DC7C part of the way from Paris, to Brisbane or New Caledonia, and use a DC6B on a shuttle service betwen one of those points and Auckland. Like Pan American, the French airline intends to put Douglas DCB jets into the South Pacific in the early 1960’5.
