TROOPS IN KENYA
Use Of Strategic Reserve (N.Z. Press Association— Copyright) (Rec. 8 p.m.) LONDON, April 1, Sir Gerald Templer. Chief of the Imperial General Staff, today hinted that there might be a permanent increase in Kenya's strategic reserve when he spoke to correspondents in Nairobi yMy own personal feeling,"' he said, “is that in the present state of the world some increase in the existing strength of the reservice her might well be of value from two points of view—from the point of view of British responsibility east of Suez generally. and from the point of view of the East African territories themselves."
Sir Gerald Templer said that although Kenya's strategic reserve of British forces have been put at one battalion, provision was being made at Kahawa—a camp about 15 miles from Nairobi which is being established for a strategic reserve—for accommodation to be increased to take a second major unit.
This did not necessarily mean a battalion. It could well be a field regiment, he said.
