PAKISTAN’S EASY WIN
Tourists Outclass Southland
(New Zealand Press Association) INVERCARGILL, April 2 Trying to play Pakistan at its own game made the Southland hockey team look a lot poorer than it really was. at Invercargill today The short-passing Pakistanis found Southland playing into their hands time after time, and were able to win 6-0 without any effort. For two short periods of the game. Southland kept Pakistan at bay with long hitting, but on both occasions relapsed into the fault of trying to match the dazzling stickwork of the visitors In this the Southland Players were no match for the lithe Pakistanis, and but for the outstanding defence of J. Hastings in goal, the score would have been much higher. Hastings stopped all but six of about 35 shots fired at him.
While Hastings defended the Southland goalmouth so stoutly, his vis-a-vis. H. Zakir, stood idly at the other end ol the field watching the play. Not once during the game was Zakir called upon to save, but during practice at the interval, he was struck on the mouth by a hard-hit ball, losing two teeth and having his lip split. The game was played on a soft ground before a crowd of only 550. For Pakistan, goals were scored by Habib <4). Nasur. and Zaka.
