Western Nigerian Unrest

(NZ. Press Association—Copyright) LAGOS (Nigeria), April 1. A state of emergency has been declared in several areas of Western Nigeria after six days of disturbances in which 14 persons have been killed. The disturbances, in which another 300 persons have been arrested, followed the death last week of Mr Alhaji Adegok Adelabu, the Leader of the Opposition in Western Nigeria, in a car crash.

Police opened fire on village rioters yesterday. Two persons were killed and two others injured. Police reinforcements have been ordered to Ibadan from Eastern Nigeria and an order banning processions and meetings in Ibadan is expected today.
