AUCKLAND BOARDS’ POLICY
No Action Without Minister’s Order
(New Zealand Press Association) a Oakland, April 2,
Neither the Auckland nor the Waitemata Electric Power Board intends to confine power charge increases to the period after April 1 unless they are officially instructed to do so by the Minister in charge of State Electricity (Mr Watt).
Both boards—and a number of other boards throughout New Zealand—have made the increases on accounts rendered after April 1. Some bills go back to midFebruary for the Auckland board. Some Waitemata board bills go back to the beginning of February-
lue Auckland board estimates it will lose about £50,000 in revenue for the quarter if it is forced to adjust its charges to April 1. The Waitemata board could lose between £15,000 and £20,000.
Dunedin Decision This Month
(New Zealand Press Association) DUNEDIN, April 2.
The Dunedin City Council’s electricity committee will at its next meeting on April 16 consider tne apportionment of all electricity accounts as at April 1.
The Town Clerk (Mr J. C. Lucas) said today that the Minister in charge of State Electricity (Mr Watt) had been informed that, with such an adjustment, the revenue of the electricity department for 1958-59 would be £30,000 short of the amount required to cover its estimated expenditure for the year ine Minister had been asked to advise whether the State Hydroelectric Department had any proposals for assisting to meet this possible deficiency in revenue.
