H-Bomb Tests
Sir, —The American leaders’ re-! ported uneasiness lest they be beaten by Russia's probable an-, nouncement of a decision to suspend nuclear bomb tests, thereby reaping a harvest of worldwide goodwill, reveals such spiritual poverty one feels ashamed of Western leadership. Should Russia prove herself morally strong enough to so lead in the interests of all people and the easing of world tension, she will certainly add to scientific leadership the honour of moral leadership. Thousands in Britain are trying to urge our own na-! tion to lead in unilateral nuclear disarmament, that our politics reflect in some measure the spirit! of our Western religion meant to save the world; and many in New Zealand add to the pressure. Fearridden leaders who head tor destruction should be dismissed. —Yours, etc., N. BECK. March 31, 1958.
