Hockey PAKISTAN WINS AT OAMARU

North Otago Beaten By Eight Goals (New Zealand Press Association) OAMARU, March 31. Playing crowd-pleasing hockey at Oamaru today the touring Pakistan team defeated North Otago by 8 goals to nil after leading by 6 goals to nil at half time. As was to be expected the tourists with superior speed and short snappy passes kept North Otago bottled up for most of the game.

North Otago, in fact, only got inside the Pakistan circle on two occasions, and then there was no danger of the team scoring. North Otago indulged in long hitting tactics which did not pay.

North Otago’s South Island Minor Associations’ representative, J. Tyson, was one of the busiest men on the field and his repeated saves, some of them most spectacular, pleased the crowd. For most of the game play was confined to deep inside North Otago’s territory with the visitors showing superiority in all departments of play. It was to the credit of North Otago’s defenders, including G. Hinton, that the score was kept to reasonable proportions.

Pakistan scored first 10 minutes after play began and, five minutes before half time, led by three goals to nil. With a burst of brilliant play within three minutes a further three goals were added.

In the second h?lf Pakistan gave the impression of just coasting along and scored two further goals. In the Pakistan team the inside left, Zaka, and the centre forward, Nasseer, punched home the attack.

The full-backs did not let anything slip past while the halves kept the front row well supplied with the ball, nipping in the bud any attempted outbreaks by North Otago. For Pakistan goals were scored by Zaka and Nasseer (two each) and N. Massarat, A. Hamid, N. Allam, and Kiddie.
