Lawn Tennis SENIOR MEN’S COMPETITION
Unfinished Matches Opawa’s two unfinished matches in the Canterbury Lawn Tennis Association’s senior men’s competition have been decided so that the points in the competition can be completed. The match between Elmwood and Opawa that was stopped by rain on the first day of the competition has been won by default by Opawa which held a lead of three singles to one. The other match, between Opawa and South Brighton, which stood at two singles each, was completed at Wilding Park at the week-end. The teams were equal, seven sets each and South Brighton won by 68 games to 67. Results (Opawa names first) were:—
Singles: S. Clarke beat G. Shaw, 6-4, 6-1; M. I. C. Norden lost to W. Thom, 0-6, 7-9; J. Tregear lost to V. Jones, 1-6, 6-1, 2-6; D. Reid beat A. Atkinson, 6-1, 6-4. Doubles: Norden and Clarke beat Shaw and Thom, 10-8, 3-6, 6-3; Tregear and Reid lost to Jones and Atkinson, 5-7, 3-6. South Brighton won by 68 games to 67. Points in the competition now are:—University 7, United 5, North Linwood 4, Elmwood 3, South Brighton 3, Cashmere 2, Avonside 2, Opawa 2.
