Unsuspected Coal Reserve
(Special Correspondent N.Z.P.A.) LONDON, March 31.
Pumping operations at an abandoned pit shaft at Swannington, near Coalville, Leicestershire, have revealed an unsuspected reserve of nearly 10,000,000 tons of coal. The flooded pit had been closed for a century and no records survived to show which seams had been exhausted. Engineers have found that of six in existence, four are untouched.
