BUS ROUTES AND TIME-TABLES

Minor Amendments By Board Permitted

The Christchurch Transport Board can now make minor amendments to timetables and routes without seeking permission from the Christchurch Metropolitan Licensing Authority. The board recently applied for the permission. The authority’s secretary (Mr H. S. Feast) has been informed by the Minister of Transport (Mr Mathison) that there was nothing in the existing legislation to prevent the authority from inserting suitable conditions in the licences it issues to cover the points. “If substantial objections are placed before the authority it will, no doubt, be its duty to inquire into the matters,” said Mr Feast yesterday. Arising from a suggestion by the licensing authority other local authorities will have representatives present when the board applied for routes , running through their areas. The Minister has informed Mr Feast that existing legislation did not appear to affect this proposal. The Minister suggested that the authority should pass a resolution to cover the point.
