Any time now those who try to persuade women to change their hats, their shoes, and their silhouettes, will also endeavour to persuade their clients that the most elegant stocking to wear is one which is not in any shade of beige,. but is green, or lilac, or blue or red. Already darker nylon stockings—with black for the evening—have been shown in at least one of the London couture collections. British manufacturers say that the Introduction of coloured nylon stockings is overdue, and point out that, in any case, transparent hose will appear as no more than, a faint, attractive tint. The change may easily come as a result of shorter skirts. Leicester, Britain’s biggest centre for stocking manufacture, is eager to launch a range of new. colours. The stockings' in a clear,, true pink shade at the recent British Hosiery and Knitwear Exhibition in London—the first of its kind to be held—did not appeal tome.
