NEW RAILWAY BRIDGE

Spans Put In Position The new railway bridge across the Waimakariri river near the traffic bridge is taking its final shape rapidly. Prefabricated spans are being placed on the concrete piers which have been in position for many months. Rapid progress has been made with placing the heavy spans in the last two days. The Railways Department’s big mobile crane moves forward on the rails as each span is placed and swings the next into position for bolting down.
