Mr P. J. Alley, who returned recently from a tour overseas, showed slides of his trip at a meeting of the Canterbury Astronomical Society. 'Mr Alley visited four observatories overseas—at Brussels, Stalingrad, Peking, and Nanking. At Stalingrad, he said, all the stars and planets were shown, and also a sputnik travelling across the planetarium. At Peking, the observatory was 2000 years old, and the old instruments were kept there now as a memorial, said Mr Alley.
