New University For Victoria
(N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) MELBOURNE, March 19. Victoria’s second university, which is to be established soon, will be named the Monash University in honour of Sir John Monash, leader of the first Australian Imperial Forces and an outstanding engineer. The Minister for Education, Mr D. S Bloomfield, announcing this, said it had been originally intended to call it the University of Victoria. However, this would have caused confusion as there were already Victoria Universities in England, New Zealand and Canada.
"Now the university will keep alive the memory of one of Victoria’s greatest citizens,” he said.
