Araleum Destroyed

(N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) MELBOURNE, March 19. The New Zealand-bred gelding. Araleum, which broke down badly in the Alister Clark Stakes at Moonee Valley on Saturday, has been destroyed. Araleum, by Gold Nib from Signify, was raced by Mr J. P. Stratton, ot Perth, and trained at Flemington by P. Burke. Araleum won only one race—the Greenvale Handicap at Moonee Valley in October, 1956—but he raced only in top-class company and was placed 11 times.

Answer to Correspondent C.T.W., Riccarton. —Knockfin was runner-up to Epris In the Winter Cup at Riccarton in 1935. The stake for the Auckland Cup this season was £ll,OOO. The stake was increased from £lO,lOO to £12,500 in the 195051 season, and was reduced to £ll,OOO last season.
