POLICE GUARD FOR KRUPP

Visit To Mining Towns

Police are maintaining a round-the-clock guard on the German industrialist, Mr Alfried Krupp, while he is visiting Queensland mining towns. Uniformed police formed an escort to the airport terminal and then to the hotel when Mr Krupp and his party arrived at Mount Isa. 1000 miles north-west of Brisbane. New Australians, who form more than a third of Mount Isa’s population of 12,000 stood by as .the party drove through the streets. Some of them were in German concentration camps during World War 11.

There were no incidents. Mr Krupp went underground in overalls and a steel helmet at the Mount Isa silver, lead and copoer mines today. The inspection was part of his survey of Queensland's coal, imining and industrial potential
