Neil Strong, aged 19, paid top price of 1800 guineas for a chestnut colt by the French sire. Emperor, from Anna Brueghel. Neil, who is the son of a wellknown Brisbane trainer, Athol Strong, also paid 700 guineas for a Maytown—Nick Name filly and 900 guineas for a half-brother to Dual.

After a disappointing start on the first day, bidding rallied yesterday and the 113 yearlings brought a total of 34,015 guineas, averaging 301 guineas. However, the two-day sale average of 233 J guineas was well below last year’s record of 335 guineas.
