GOOD WIN FOR MARKSMAN
Staying Performance At Randwick (N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) SYDNEY, March 16. The New Zealand owner, Mr M. J. Moodabe, considers his horse, Marksman, the type to * win the Melbourne Cup. Mr Moodabe said this after Marksman won the Miranda Maiden Handicap over a mile and a quarter at Randwick yesterday. Marksman, the 11/8 favourite, came from near the rear of the field at the six furlongs to win by a long neck from Praetorian. The jockey. G. Moore, was unable to ride Marksman out fully because of the horse’s tendency to lug in over the last furlong. Mr Moodabe, who raced the champion, Prince Courtauld, and many other good horses, bought Marksman from the former Gov-ernor-General 'of New Zealand (Sin Willoughby Norrie). Mr Moodabe arrived in Australia on Friday for a conference of picture show proprietors and to see his horses run at Randwick yesterday.
He returned to New Zealand today. Mr Moodabe said he would leavfe all plans for Marksman and the decision as to whether he would ruin in the two-mile Sydney Cup on April 7 to the trainer, T. J. Smith.
