GARBAGE FROM U.S. SHIP
Daily Disposal Trips May Be Made To Sea
“The Press’ Special Service DUNEDIN, March 14.
If no satisfactory solution can be found to the problems which have arisen over the disposal of garbage from the U.S.S. Brough in Dunedin,' the commander of the United States Antarctic expetion, Rear-Admiral G. J. Dufek, will order the vessel to sea each day for this purpose.
He did not wish to become involved in inter-departmental disputes over the garbage disposal of the Brough, and if a solution could not be found he would order her to travel each day outside the five-mile sea radius to dump the garbage, he said in Dunedin.
At a recent meeting of the Otago Harbour Board a dispute arose over the disposal of garbage from the Brough at Kitchener street wharf. The Department of Agriculture advised the board of a ban on the landing of garbage, and the commander of the Brough, Lieutenant-Commander B. E. Boney, said that if disposal services were not provided he would seek orders to sail to another port.
