NO SPARE PARTS FOR TRACTORS
Federated Farmers’ Complaint (New Zeaiana Press Association) DUNEDIN, March 14. Importers of machinery should be made to keep aside a portion of their annual allocation for emergencies, the agriculture section committee of Otago Federated Farmers was told today by Mr F. J. May. He complained that firms were obtaining licences to bring tractors into the country, they were not importing spare parts. Mr B- Drake said the firms preferred to import the complete units which gave* them a much greater profit. “Federated Farmers should press the Government to introduce a law making importers bring spare parts into the country,” he said. “Agents lay the blame on import controls because they use their allocation‘on complete units.” Mr May said he had .waited four months for two cogs, the list prices being only 16s and 18s. “Is there no way I can get them from America?” he asked. “This is ridiculous. I am prepared to pay for a cable and air freight out here.” “If your agent can’t get them, then you can’t,” said Mr Drake. The matter was left to the ci.:..rman (Mr H. R. Henderson) to make inquiries.
