Missing Cyclist Found Injured
A man who was reported missing from his home in Sydenham on Saturday afternoon was found lying beside his bicycle after a fall, apparently a result of his coat becoming caught in the front wheel, on the Gebbie’s Pass road between Teddington and the summit yesterday afternoon. He is Alfred James Snelling, aged 45, of 134 Carlyle street, who left his home about 1.30 p.m. on Saturday riding a bicycle. He failed to return home that evening, and a radio appeal was broadcast yesterday afternoon. He was believed to be suffering from loss of memory.
About 4.30 p.m. he was found by a passing motorist, who reported his discovery to Misses A. J. and M. Brown, who own a farm nearby. With the assistance of another farmer, Mr M. Foley, they took Mr Snelling to the Lyttelton casualty ward, where he was attended by Dr. P. A. M. Heath. He was later taken by a St. John ambulance to the Christchurch Public Hospital, where he was admitted at 7 p.m. His condition late last evening was reported to be satisfactory.
